Lantern Hall

A grand brasserie in Baton Rouge - globes, mirrors and a mosaic floor laid by two brothers from Mobile.

The hall was a bank lobby, and it wanted to be grand again. Brasseries are the honest way to do grandeur: mirrors in walnut frames, red leather down the center line, globe chandeliers sized to the ceiling rather than the budget.

The mosaic floor is the project I am proudest of - a border pattern drawn from a 1920s menu card, laid over six weeks by two brothers from Mobile who signed it near the coat check.

Mirrors are placed so that from any banquette you can see the door, which is half of why people fight for banquettes.
